As the school year wraps up, it’s time for the 9th edition of the Karel Challeng —the fast-paced programming competition organized annually by Codelearn. Karel Challenge 2025 kicks off on May 2 and runs through Saturday, May 31, when the thrilling in-person grand finale will take place in Barcelona. Students from other regions in Spain can also join the competition remotely through their local Codelearn centers. Once again, the challenge is open to everyone, not just current Codelearn students.
The Karel Challenge is a true coding eSport that tests your speed, strategy, and accuracy. Its mission is to make programming fun and engaging for kids and teens. All Codelearn students who have completed Karel Chapter 2 are eligible, but the event also welcomes anyone eager to take on the challenge—whether or not they study at Codelearn.
To compete, participants will write code to control a virtual robot named Karel, guiding it through various maps filled with obstacles, objects to collect, and tasks to complete. The goal? Reach the exit before your rivals do!
There will be two age categories:
─ Karel Challenge Junior: for participants born in 2013 or later
─ Karel Challenge Senior: for those born in 2012 or earlier
The qualifying rounds start on May 2, semifinals will be held on May 17 at each Codelearn center, and the in-person final takes place in Barcelona on May 31.
CALENDAR
─ May 2: start of qualifying and preparatory matches
─ May 17: semifinals at each Codelearn center
