From February 19 to 23, all our centers have been celebrating a new themed week. This time, it was dedicated to Roblox. which is an online gaming platform that allows its users to create, share, and play a wide variety of video games, making it not only a platform for gamers but also a great community of creators.
The platform was first launched in September 2006 and has since rapidly grown to become one of the most popular gaming platforms on the Internet. This popularity is due to the wide range of games it offers, including games created by users from around the world and catering to different player preferences: adventure games, life simulators, role-playing games, racing games, and many other types. The key behind all this is Roblox Studio, Roblox’s development engine, which allows the most imaginative users to create their own video games and easily share them with the rest of the community.
The Roblox community
Roblox promotes social interaction and collaboration among platform users: they can join groups, chat with friends, create clans, and participate in contests and other events organized within the community. This platform is a virtual world in itself, even having its own currency, called Robux, which can be used to buy virtual items on Roblox, such as accessories to customize avatars, decorative items, and many other things.
In light of this reality, the platform also ensures the safety of minors and offers parental control tools to help families monitor and manage the activity of younger members when they are using Roblox. For example, it includes options to restrict communication with other users and options to limit playtime.
A gateway to the world of video games programming
This week, our students have used Roblox Studio to create a very simple game and familiarize themselves with Roblox controls. The world of video games and the popularity of platforms like Roblox sometimes become a gateway to the world of programming due to the initial curiosity to experience what game creation is like. Later on, this can lead young people to explore other options and discover all the possibilities that programming offers.
In this line, Codelearn’s Online Camps are a great opportunity to discover a specific theme, such as video game programming, and this year our centers will organize two Roblox summer camps.
Roblox Coding is an ideal camp to take the first steps in Roblox and work on programming through the Lua language. During one week, students in this summer camp will learn the basics of this programming language, start using variables, loops, and conditionals, learn to store user information, and finish the course with new knowledge that will allow them to program simple games. After this camp, if you are eager to continue exploring the possibilities of the platform, you can also enroll to the Roblox Studio Game Creation camp, in which you will be able to take your next steps towards becoming a game designer.
